Acrylic Diabetic Socks Versus Cotton Diabetic Socks, Which Should I Buy?

Many individuals with diabetes wonder which is better: acrylic diabetic socks or cotton diabetic socks, and which should they purchase.

When it comes to selecting a suitable diabetic sock, there is a lot of uncertainty. There are many questions that must be addressed.

Which fabric should I purchase? Which is better, cotton or acrylic?

What style should I purchase? Socks: Crew, Quarter, or Over the Calf?

As a diabetic and a retired Nuclear Medicine Technologist, I'd want to offer some of my insights from my 20+ years in the healthcare profession, as well as information provided by my former patients.

While acrylic fibre socks are a superior moisture wicking sock material than cotton socks, cotton socks are second only to acrylic socks in moisture-wicking qualities.

Cotton socks, in my experience, are the most comfortable, and they are also a great moisture wicking sock. When it comes to diabetic socks, moisture wicking is essential since you always want to keep your feet dry. When selecting the right diabetic sock, comfort is also extremely essential. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist who spends eight to fourteen hours a day on my feet, I discovered that wearing acrylic socks caused my feet to sweat. In the acrylic socks, my feet were constantly hot and sweaty. In my cotton socks, however, this was not the case.

It is critical to wick moisture away from your diabetic foot in order to keep your feet dry and prevent friction blisters, which may lead to an open wound and infection. While working as a Nuc Med Tech for 8 to 14 hours a day, I discovered that wearing cotton diabetic socks provided the greatest comfort while also keeping my feet dry.

Acrylic socks were warmer to my feet, causing sweaty feet, while cotton socks seemed to be a cooler fabric. Cotton was softer and less abrasive on their feet than acrylic socks, according to my patients with severe diabetic neuropathy in their lower limbs. I'm afraid I have to agree with them.I have big calves and have always had problems with acrylic socks rolling down and causing a tight stricture around my calf or ankle. This was not a problem for me with the cotton socks. When comparing the two, I prefer cotton socks to acrylic socks. This material is not intended to be medical advice; medical advice should be obtained from a person's primary care physician.
